It scores high for a genuinely plastic-free sealing system, glass jar, glass lid, rubber gasket, and metal clamp, in a made-in-Italy jar purpose-built to keep long pasta fresh and airtight. It sits just below the most versatile jars on our scale for two honest reasons rather than material ones: the tall, narrow shape is specialized for long dry goods rather than general storage, and the rubber gasket is a consumable that needs hand washing and periodic replacement. For plastic-free pasta storage with classic Italian style, it is an excellent choice.

The Honest Tradeoffs

1. This is a tall, narrow, single-purpose shape, which is the whole point for spaghetti but worth knowing: it is not a general-purpose wide-mouth canister, so it shines for long dry goods rather than scooping flour or storing leftovers. 

2. The rubber gasket is the consumable that keeps the seal plastic-free, it softens over time and is replaced periodically, and Bormioli Rocco recommends hand washing the gasket without detergent and keeping it off pure fats, while the glass jar itself is dishwasher safe with the metal wire and gasket removed. 

3. As with all glass, it is breakable and best kept in a stable spot. 

4. None of this is a drawback so much as the nature of a tall, sealing glass jar.
