It scores well below the inert manual tools in this collection for one honest reason: its food-contact bread pan and paddles use a conventional PTFE-family nonstick coating rather than an inert material, which is the kind of surface this site generally steers away from. What keeps its score respectable is the genuine value it delivers, full control over your ingredients, no preservatives or plastic-bagged loaves, a useful additive-free jam setting, and excellent build quality, along with the mitigating facts that bread bakes at moderate heat and the pan is replaceable. It is a quality machine with a real tradeoff, stated plainly.

The Honest Tradeoffs

Here is where we have to be straight with you, because it is the whole reason we score this the way we do.

1. This is an electric appliance, and unlike the manual tools in this collection, its food-contact surfaces are not inert. 

2. The bread pan and both kneading paddles are coated with a conventional nonstick finish, a fluoropolymer in the PTFE and PFAS family, not a ceramic or PFAS-free coating, and owners note the coating can wear at the rivet points over years of use. 

3. For a kitchen working to reduce plastics and PFAS, that is a real compromise, and we will not dress it up. Two things temper it honestly: 

• bread bakes at moderate temperatures rather than the high heat that most concerns people with nonstick
• and replacement pans and paddles are available when the coating eventually wears

4. It is also a large machine with a real footprint, and it is worth knowing that essentially every bread machine on the market uses a nonstick pan, so this tradeoff is the category, not this model alone.
