316 Surgical Stainless Steel Mason Jar Lids, Regular Mouth (12-Pack)
316 Surgical Stainless Steel Mason Jar Lids, Regular Mouth (12-Pack)
The Lid Upgrade Your Mason Jars Have Been Waiting For
Here is a detail most people never think about: the standard metal canning lid that comes with a mason jar has a sealing compound on its underside, and on many disposable lids that compound is a plastisol or PVC coating.
Since liquid in a sealed jar evaporates and condenses back down, that coating is part of the equation even though the lid sits on top. These EcoPeaceful lids solve it at the source. They are made from 316 surgical stainless steel, the highest food-grade stainless there is, the same grade used in biomedical applications for its rust resistance, paired with a 100% food-grade silicone gasket. There is no plastic coating and no plastisol, just inert steel and pure silicone between your food and the air.
This 12-pack gives you twelve reusable lids and twelve silicone seals that fit any regular-mouth Ball or Kerr jar, the standard narrower-neck mason jars from 4 ounces up to a quart. They are airtight and leak-proof for both liquid and dry storage, dishwasher, oven, and freezer safe across a wide temperature range, and built noticeably heavier than disposable lids, so they will not bend or rust. Instead of tossing a flimsy lid after each use, you screw on a lid you keep for life, which is better for your food and for the bin.
True Shift Score: 8.8 / 10
This is our own assessment, not a lab result or a certification.
It scores at the top of our range because, on materials, it is the cleanest lid solution we have found: 316 surgical stainless steel and a 100% food-grade silicone gasket, with no plastisol coating or plastic anywhere, reusable for life, and a direct fix for the plastic-lined disposable lids that come standard on mason jars. It falls just short of perfect for honest, practical reasons rather than material ones: it is for storage rather than canning, it fits regular-mouth jars only, the silicone gasket needs correct seating and occasional replacement, and it is lids-only at a premium up-front price. For upgrading regular-mouth mason jars you already own, it is an excellent choice.
The Honest Tradeoffs
The most important honest point: these are storage lids, not canning lids.
1. They are excellent for dry goods, liquids, fermenting, and everyday fridge and pantry storage, but they are not designed for water-bath or pressure canning, where you still need traditional disposable canning lids that are engineered to vacuum-seal during processing.
2. They are also regular mouth, so they fit standard regular-mouth jars rather than the wide-mouth jars, worth checking your jars before buying, since regular and wide are not interchangeable.
3. The silicone gasket is the one non-metal part, it is removable for cleaning, food-grade, and replaceable down the line, and it should be seated correctly each time for the leak-proof seal to work.
4. They are lids only, so you supply the jars. And they cost more up front than a sleeve of disposable lids, though being reusable for life, the cost per use drops to almost nothing.
5. None of this is a drawback for everyday storage, it is simply the line between storage and canning.
How We Evaluate Food Storage
We look at four things, and none is a lab score:
1. Whether the food-contact surface is inert and won't leach
2. Stain, or hold odors, what the lid is actually made of, since that is where plastic hides in most "glass" storage
3. How well it seals and holds up across the fridge, freezer, microwave, and dishwasher,
4. And how durable it is over years of use.
The real shift in food storage is getting your food off plastic and onto glass or steel.

When Something Else Is the Better Fit
- These lids fit regular-mouth jars, so if your jars are wide mouth, including the wide-mouth mason jars featured elsewhere in this collection, you would want the wide-mouth version of these lids instead.
- For actual water-bath or pressure canning, use traditional disposable canning lids rather than these.
- And if you would rather have a jar that already includes a fully plastic-free glass or clamp lid, the Kitchentoolz glass-lid jar or the Le Parfait seal without any separate lid to buy.
- These regular-mouth 316 stainless lids are the pick when you already own standard regular-mouth mason jars and want to upgrade them off disposable, plastic-lined lids.

Common Questions About the 316 Stainless Steel Mason Jar Lids
Can you use 316 stainless steel mason jar lids for canning?
No. These 316 stainless steel lids are reusable storage lids for dry goods, liquids, and fermenting, not for water-bath or pressure canning. For canning, you still need traditional disposable canning lids designed to vacuum-seal during heat processing.
Do the stainless steel mason jar lids have a plastic seal?
No. The lid is 316 surgical stainless steel and the gasket is 100% food-grade silicone, with no plastisol or PVC coating, unlike many disposable canning lids whose sealing compound is a plastic coating. The silicone gasket is removable for cleaning and replaceable over time.
Will these regular-mouth lids fit my mason jars?
They fit any regular-mouth Ball or Kerr jar, roughly a 2 3/4-inch outer rim, from 4 ounces up to a quart, the standard narrower-neck mason jars. They do not fit wide-mouth jars, so check which neck your jars have before buying, since regular and wide are not interchangeable.
