The Vegan Floss That Isn't Bamboo

The Honest Notes

The honest point worth understanding here is what "plant-based and compostable" really means for this floss.

1. It is made from PLA (polylactic acid), a material created by fermenting corn starch into a bioplastic. That makes it genuinely plant-derived and renewable rather than petroleum nylon, which is a real improvement, but PLA is still technically a bioplastic, and it composts reliably only in an industrial composter, not a typical backyard bin, so "compostable" comes with that asterisk. We would rather explain that than let the word do more work than it should. 

2. Two smaller notes: PLA can be slightly less resistant than nylon, though the tape format helps, and it is mint-flavored, so it is not fragrance-free. 

3. And a buying note, Bambaw sells both this vegan version and a silk version on look-alike listings, so make sure you are ordering the vegan corn-based one if that is what you want.
