The Honest Tradeoffs

1. The natural rubber gasket is the one consumable, which is what keeps the seal plastic-free rather than relying on a plastic cap liner. 

2. Like any rubber gasket it softens over time and is eventually replaced, and Bormioli Rocco recommends hand washing the metal clamp and gasket rather than running them through the dishwasher, while the glass bottle itself is dishwasher safe. 

3. The 8.5-ounce size is compact and versatile, right for oils, vinegars, dressings, syrups, and single-serving infused drinks, though for larger volumes of water or juice you would want a bigger bottle. 

4. And as slim glass bottles they are best handled with a little care.
