The ROES-100 carries a genuine WQA Gold Seal certification to NSF/ANSI 58. The Water Quality Association is an accredited third-party certifier, so that is a real certification, but the Gold Seal here certifies the system's reduction of total dissolved solids and its structural integrity, not the individual removal of each contaminant. So TDS reduction is certified, while the broader claims for lead, arsenic, fluoride, and PFAS rest on APEC's own and independent laboratory testing rather than on the certification itself.

The encouraging part is that those claims hold up where it counts. Independent reviewers who lab-test the APEC Essence systems consistently find them reducing lead, arsenic, and PFAS subtypes to undetectable levels, which is exactly what a well-built RO membrane should do. So the performance behind the claims is well supported, even though the certificate itself speaks only to TDS. We would rather you understand it that way than read "certified" and assume it covers everything. The honest tradeoffs

1. It is an older, tank-based design, which means it is slower and less water-efficient than modern tankless systems, sending roughly three gallons to the drain for every gallon produced. 

2. The storage tank takes up under-sink space and holds standing water. 

3. It requires installation and connects to your plumbing and a dedicated faucet, though it is famously DIY-friendly. 

4. The housing is BPA-free plastic, not glass or steel.
